Am 05. Mai 2010 fand in Griechenland ein landesweiter Generalstreik gegen die Sparpolitik der sozialistischen Regierung statt, zu dem die Gewerkschaftsdachverbände GSEE und ADEDY, sowie die kommunistische PAME und andere Gewerkschaften, aufgerufen hatten.
Auch aus anarchistischen Kreisen gab es Demonstrationsaufrufe und an den Protesten beteiligten sich über 200.000 Menschen. Die Polizei ging mit Tränengas und Knüppeln gegen die Versammlungen vor.
Unter ungeklärten Umständen kamen bei einem Brand in einer Bank drei eingesperrte Angestellte, die zur Arbeit gezwungen wurden, zu Tode. Die Bankgewerkschaft OTOE hat für den 06. Mai zu weiteren Proteststreiks aufgerufen.
Aus Solidarität mit den streikenden Arbeiter/innen, sowie aus Protest gegen die anti-griechische Hetze in der europäischen Presse und Politik, fand am Mittag des 05. Mai eine Kundgebung vor dem Griechischen Generalkonsulat in Köln statt (Venloer Str./Innere Kanalstr.). Vor dem Gebäude versammelten sich etwa 50 Gewerkschafter/innen und Mitglieder linker Parteien und Organisationen. Neben Redebeiträgen zur sozialen Lage in dem krisengeplagten Mittelmeerstaat wurde auch zu einer Infoveranstaltung im Autonomen Zentrum (http://unsersquat.blogsport.eu) am Abend aufgerufen.
Nach etwa einer Stunde auf der Straße gingen die Versammlungsteilnehmer/innen dann in das Hochhaus, in dem das Konsulat eine Etage gemietet hat. Die anwesende Polizei stürmte voran und versuchte die Aufzüge zu blockieren, was ihnen jedoch nicht vollständig gelang. Schließlich wurde im Obergeschoss solange protestiert, bis eine Delegation zum Generalkonsul vorgelassen wurde, die ihm einen Protestbrief übergab. Nach 30 Minuten hatten alle Demonstrant/innen wieder wohlbehalten das Gebäude verlassen und die Solidaritätsaktion war beendet.

Cologne: Solidarity with the general strike in Greece
On May 05, 2010, there was a nationwide general streike in Greece against the cuts in public spending by the socialist government, to wich the union federations GSEE and ADEYE made a call together with the communist union PAME and other unions.
Also some anarchist groups did call for demonstrations and took part in the protests. About 200.000 people went to the streets that day. The police used teargas and batons against the manifestations. Under unknown circumstances three bank workers died at a fire in a closed bank. The workers were forced to work that day and all the doors were locked. The bank workers union OTOE made a call for protest strikes at the following day, May 06.
In solidarity with the striking workers and as a protest against the anti-greek propaganda from the european press and politicians, a manifestation in front of the General Consulate of Greece took place on May 05 in Cologne (Germany). About 50 union members and members of leftist parties and organisations held a protest meeting in front of the building (at Venloer Strasse / Innere Kanalstrasse). Beside speeches about the social struggle in the crisis-shaken mediterrenean state of Greece, all were invited to a information meeting in the squatted autonomous centre at the same day (http://unsersquat.blogsport.de).
After about an hour on the streets all the participants of the manifestation went inside the building, were the consulate has rented a floor. The police tried in a rush to prevent them from entering the consulate, but without success. After some protests inside a delegation was allowed to enter the consulate and hand over a protest letter to the General Consule. After 30 minutes all the demonstrators left the building and the solidarity action was
over.
